Black Tie Affair: Not-So-White Wedding Gowns

filed under: Accessories, Dresses, Fashion
Hl
Believe it or not, black was the hottest gown hue to hit the bridal runways this season. So I thought, in an homage to Halloween, I'd highlight some of the boldest wedding gowns of the bunch.

Want jewelry to pair with your goth gown? I love this necklace by Anna Ruth Henriques. The spider charm is super subtle so it's wearable the rest of the year too!

What do you think: Wedding worthy, or more appropriate for a costume ball?

Hot Wedding Hairstyle: The Retro Bouffant

Bouff

I saw tons of gorgeous 50s inspired bridal gowns this season, but my favorite retro sighting was the over-the-top teased hair!

Wedding Makeup: This Palette is Perfection

filed under: Beauty, Dresses, Fashion
Clairep The word obsessed comes to mind when I think of this new makeup palette from Stila (it officially launches this March).

It's called Stila Loves Claire Pettibone and last week, at the Claire Pettibone Bridal Fashion Show, we got a pre-release sample in our goodie bags. I, of course, did a little test run the second I got home.

The plum colored trio (on the top right) is my favorite, the redish-purple really complements my hazel eyes.

Now, I'm no pro when it comes to applying makeup, but these colors blended seamlessly for a flawless finish.

Bedside Manner: La Perla Bridal Lingerie

Perla

I just got word that La Perla is launching their first ever bridal collection (around november), and it is to die for. The pictures really speak for themselves — they're gorgeous, right?

My favorite piece: the delicate lace slip (the one on the right). I love the way it looks with those ribbon-detailed shoes (touches of black are hot on the bridal scene right now). I know, it's a splurge, but looking good in your lingerie is — okay, here's a total cliché — priceless.

Strike A Pose: Bridal Fashion Week Chicago 2009

Meg
Every October I head to Chicago to check out what's new in the world of bridal fashion and accessories.

And, while I'm in the windy city, I always look forward to spending some quality time with the Meg Jewelry Clan: Meg Lammers (that's her on the left) and her husband Rod!

We love to play with (read: try on) all of her wonderful creations.

Isn't this cage veil FUN! I had applied some bright red lip gloss just before the shot to really capture the vintage vibe and ended up getting a bit on the bottom of the veil.

So, just a heads up to brides considering a cage veil...let your lipstick dry before fussing with your headpiece!

Feeling Blue: DIY or Buy Your Something Blue

Blue

Last week on The Knot Live we did a special, Something Blue segment and I (with the help of my fabulous fashion interns) got to do some fun, fashion DIY projects!

First, this amazing necklace! We found the ribbons, jeweled buttons, and chains at MJTrim.com. Then sewed the ribbon to the chains and attached the buttons. If they blue is too bold, think about doing this with clear crystal and white lace, velvet, or grosgrain ribbon.

Next project --- the bedazzled heel! We simply glued flat back crystals to a pair of dyed Unforgettable Moments by Lela Rose for Payless Shoes, and they look much more couture than their $25 price tag!

Okay, so this last item is not a DIY, but they are blue and my favorite panty-line free underwear! They are called and come in all different shades of blue!

Has anyone else tried these!? And, do you love them?

Double Duty: Bridesmaids Dresses With Multiple Looks

Convert

I love bridesmaid dresses that let your friends switch up their style. Here are two of my favorites:

1. This Val Stefani Bridesmaid Dress has a wrap top and a bubble skirt. You can change the straps for a unique look.

2. Butter by Nadia has tons of wrap styles in different fabrics, colors, and patterns so matching your wedding day look shouldn't be a challenge.
